Summary     This article presents a case study of Kirkwood High School, recounting a 20-year struggle to create a safe school, to indicate the degree of effort that administrators and staff of a school, as well as key members of the community, must undertake to make schools safe for all its members, such as its gay and lesbian students, staff, and parents.
