Virtual schools see strong growth, calls for more oversight

Enrollment in online classes surged past the 1 million mark last year, but questions remain about the effectiveness of online instruction and its ability to account for learning. States are also concerned about the money that online education takes from public schools, citing that online schools often educate students who are "low-cost" while collecting the same amount of money as schools that educate high-cost students. Some states have adjusted the funding given to online schools to account for the difference in costs of educating online.
