Patrick aide backs teacher pay overhaul

Boston Globe  May 7, 2008

The governor's top education advisor said he supports paying more to teachers who take positions in challenging schools, who teach subjects with teacher shortages and who work in schools that improve student performance.  The plan did not include rewarding individual teachers based on their students' test scores.  The state's largest teachers union does not support any plan that singles out individual teachers for increased pay, whether based on student test scores or subject taught, saying that it creates division within buildings.
