LA: New Orleans schools show turn around

Changes at New Orleans schools bring gains in test scores

The percentage of fourth and eighth grade students passing Louisiana's state exam increased significantly over previous years. Although less than half of the students passed, the improvement is a marked change from the past scores posted by New Orleans schools. New Orleans schools underwent changes after Hurricane Katrina, with a strong superintendent put in place and a lessening of the role of the school board and administration.
