- ARIZONA
Education
Policy Research Unit at Arizona State University
EPRU conducts original research, provides independent
analyses of research and policy documents, and facilitates the
implementation of innovations in areas such as student performance
standards, assessment, and curriculum. EPRU disseminates its
reports, analyses, and other documents to policy makers, educators,
and the public. The Education Policy Research Unit at Arizona
State University is the successor of the Education Policy Project
at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
- CALIFORNIA
Center
on Educational Governance at USC
The Center on Educational Governance (CEG)
focuses on the linkages between policy, educational governance,
and the improvement of urban schools and systems. Center researchers
use an interdisciplinary approach to study current policy solutions
to the educational issues posed by diverse urban communities
- locally, nationally and globally. The main activities of the
center are: (1) engaging in rigorous quantitative and qualitative
research studies of policy problems; (2) building a knowledge
base to provide researchers, educators, parents and policy makers
with new tools and strategies for improvement; and, (3) working
in partnership with educators and policy makers to use research
to improve policy and practice. Current projects include U.S.
and multi-national studies of school networks and strategic
alliances, charter schools, leadership, data-driven decision
making, and educational reform.
Institute
for Democracy, Education, and Access at UCLA
The Institute for Democracy, Education, and
Access (IDEA) is a network of UCLA scholars and students, professionals
in schools and public agencies, advocates, community activists,
and urban youth. IDEA's mission is to make high quality public
schooling and successful college participation routine occurrence
in low income neighborhoods of color. Research and advocacy
are the tools IDEA uses to empower individuals, build relationships,
and create knowledge for civic participation and social change.
Linking a great public research university with committed educators
and supportive community alliances, IDEA seeks to become the
intellectual home of a broad based social movement that challenges
the pervasive racial and social class inequalities in Los Angeles
and in cities around the nation.
Institute
for Research on Education Policy and Practice at Stanford University
IREPP's mission is to support high quality,
multi-disciplinary empirical research that is informed by collaboration
with stakeholders and practitioners and that, in turn, informs
the improvement of education policy and practice.
University
of California Linguistic Minority Research Institute: a University
of California multi-campus research unit
The University of California Linguistic Minority
Research Institute (UC LMRI) was established in 1984 in response
to the California Legislature's request that the University
of California's Office of the President pursue "...knowledge
applicable to educational policy and practice in the area of
language minority students' academic achievement and knowledge,"
including their access to the University of California and other
institutions of higher education. The UC LMRI was first established
as a research project and became a Multi-campus Research Unit
(MRU) in 1992.
To carry out its mission, the UC LMRI has undertaken
a number of activities in three related areas:
- Funding research of UC faculty and graduate students;
- Providing research training for pre-doctoral and postdoctoral
students;
- Disseminating research findings to researchers, practitioners,
and policymakers.
These activities have included the funding
of both small seed grants and larger thematic grants to faculty
throughout the UC system. Between 1984 and 2005, UC LMRI has
awarded almost $2.5 million in competitive grants to 93 UC faculty
and 39 UC graduate students on 8 of the 10 UC campuses, and
funded over $600,000 in non-competitive research activities.
Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE)
PACE is an independent research center that
aims to enrich education policy debates with sound analysis
and hard evidence. From preschool, to K-12, to higher education,
we are dedicated to carefully defining issues and assessing
the effectiveness of policies and programs. PACE provides analysis
and assistance to California policymakers, educators, and the
public.
- CANADA
Centre
for the Study of Educational Leadership and Policy at Simon
Fraser University
The Centre for the Study of Educational Leadership
and Policy at Simon Fraser University seeks to expand and inform
the public policy knowledge base and the education leadership
capacity in British Columbia by reviewing, coordinating, conducting,
and disseminating scholarly research. The Centre also works
to strengthen communicative networks between researchers, policy
makers, and practitioners to increase the power of research
to inform the work of each constituent group.

Center
for Colorado Policy Studies: Program on Education Policy at
the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs
At the Center for Colorado Policy Studies we
apply economic principles and research results to critical policy
issues at the state and local level. In the Program on
Growth Issues, the Program on Education Policy and the Program
on Tax Policy we are committed to nonpartisan, fact-based examination
of the issues facing the Pikes Peak Region and the state of
Colorado. Most of our work can be found right here on this website,
making it accessible to interested citizens and policymakers.
Faculty with expertise in a variety of areas, along with some
of our best students, conduct applied research and provide advice
and information to state and local governments and nonprofit
organizations.
Center
for Education Policy Analysis at the University of Colorado,
Denver
CEPA's mission is to provide applied research
and program evaluation, strategic planning, and facilitation
that enhance the capacity of local and national education communities
to make informed decisions and solve problems, especially to
ensure the most efficacious use of public resources and improve
access and outcomes for disadvantaged populations. CEPA focuses
on preK-12 policy issues, (governance, finance, leadership,
management, standards development, school readiness, parent
involvement, school choice, competition and parent information
issues) and higher education systems integration issues.
Education
and the Public Interest Center at the University of Colorado,
Boulder
EPIC draws upon the knowledge and expertise
of the CU Boulder School of Education's nationally and internationally
recognized faculty to address the information needs of individuals
and groups interested in education policy formation, evaluation,
and implementation. EPIC's primary mission is:
- To conduct research on education policy
issues of local, state, and national significance;
- To provide individual educators,
educational institutions and organizations, government representatives
and units, the media, and the general public with timely
and convenient access to current education policy research
and analysis.
- CONNECTICUT
Center for Education Policy Analysis (CEPA) at the University
of Connecticut
The Center for Education Policy Analysis (CEPA)
is housed within the Department of Educational Leadership in
the Neag School of Education. The mission of CEPA is to inform
educational leaders on issues related to the development, implementation
and consequences of educational policies. CEPA provides assistance
to schools, agencies, and organizations through policy research
and evaluation. Through the sponsorship of conferences and forums,
CEPA brings together key leaders to discuss important policy
topics.
- FLORIDA
The Alliance for Applied Research in Education and Anthropology
(AAREA) at the University of South Florida
AAREA is home to a multidisciplinary research
team that conducts applied research on current evaluation and
policy issues in the area of education from an anthropological
perspective. The AAREA research team employs several full time
researchers as well as graduate students with academic backgrounds
in areas of anthropology, education, sociology, and statistics.
Current projects include a National Science Foundation (NSF)
funded study of the effects of program culture on women and
minority undergraduates in STEM fields; an evaluation of a NSF
funded center of teaching and learning; and the implementation
of a science education program for 3rd through 5th grade teachers,
funded by the Institute for Education Sciences (IES).
The
Center for Educational Research and Policy Studies at Florida
State University
CERPS offers a venue of support and encouragement
for research, evaluation, and policy analysis on issues that
are of critical importance to education in Florida , throughout
the nation, and beyond our borders. CERPS is dedicated to creating
and environment conducive to high quality intellectual inquiry
and to the dissemination of research findings and products that
shed new light on the major learning challenges of the 21st
century.

Policy and Evaluation Center at the University of Georgia
The purpose of the Education Policy and Evaluation
Center (EPEC) in the College of Education at the University
of Georgia (UGA) is to support rigorous research on policy and
evaluation to improve education. We provide evaluation expertise
to assess educational programs, assist policy makers and educators
to expand knowledge of policy options, and disseminate research
on education policy issues.

Hawaii
Educational Policy Center
The purpose of the Hawai'i Educational Policy
Center (HEPC) is to provide objective, data-based information
in the form of policy briefs, reports, articles, and forums
bearing on public and private education policy and practices
at all levels. The target audiences for HEPC publications and
events are educators, policymakers, and other education stakeholders
in the State of Hawai'i.

The Indiana University Center
for Postsecondary Research (CPR) promotes student success and
institutional effectiveness through research and service to
postsecondary institutions and related agencies. Home to the
National Survey of Student Engagement and related projects,
Center personnel and associates assist Indiana University and
other postsecondary institutions and agencies in gathering and
using data for decision making and institutional improvement,
focusing on initiatives related to student access, assessment,
learning, and persistence and the policies and practices that
promote student success, educational effectiveness, and institutional
development.
The
Center for Evaluation and Education Policy at Indiana University
The Center for Evaluation & Education
Policy (CEEP), Indiana's leading non-partisan program evaluation
and education policy research center, promotes and supports
rigorous program evaluation and education policy research
primarily, but not exclusively, for educational, human services,
and nonprofit organizations. CEEP projects address state and
national education questions.

Arthur
M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship at Babson College
The Arthur M. Blank Center for Entrepreneurship
is the hub for entrepreneurial activity at Babson College.
It is the Center's mission to lead the global advancement
of entrepreneurship education and practice through the development
of teaching, research, and outreach initiatives that inspire
entrepreneurial thinking and cultivate entrepreneurial leadership
in all organizations and society.
Center for Education Policy at the University of Massachusetts
- Amherst
The Center for Education Policy in the School
of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst was
created to put the University's research capacity to work
on key education policy issues in Massachusetts, in other
New England states, and beyond.
The Center conducts studies and
evaluates programs on topics relating to K-12 education reform
and K-16 alignment, access, and outcomes. The Center also
convenes policy leadership conferences, bringing together
legislators, executive branch staff, educators, union leaders,
researchers, funders, and other education stakeholders to
share research findings and test policy solutions.

Center at Western Michigan University
The Evaluation Center's mission
is to advance the theory, practice, and utilization of evaluation.
The Center's principal activities are research, development,
dissemination, service, instruction, and national and international
leadership in evaluation.
The
Education Policy Center at Michigan State University
The mission of the Education
Policy Center (EPC) at Michigan State University (MSU) is
to improve the quality of education in Michigan and the
nation by providing key audiences in the education policy
system with access to timely, credible, and non-partisan
policy research and analysis. Work in Michigan supports
and informs policy debate and development in the state Legislature
and the Michigan Department of Education. Efforts at the
national level build upon the work of the U.S. National
Center for the Third International Mathematics and Science
Study (TIMSS). The Education Policy Center supports activities
that foster informed discussion and understanding of education
issues for broader audiences, including policy makers and
analysts, business leaders, professional educators, and
local school boards and their communities around the country.

Hook Center for Educational Leadership & District Renewal Center at the University of Missouri
The mission of the Harold S. Hook
Center for Educational Leadership and District Renewal is to
foster the development and sustainability of high performing
school districts in Missouri and the nation. The Hook Center
achieves this mission through research and evaluation that investigate
district management and leadership practices, district functions
and processes, and the intersection of state and federal education
policy and district practice. The Hook Center also addresses
its mission through hands-on services geared toward improving
district management systems. Services focus on organizational
learning and development of school districts through program
evaluation, strategic planning, and organizational improvement
programs.

for Education Policy Study at the University of Nevada - Las
Vegas
The Center For Education Policy
Study is a vehicle by which faculty and graduate students from
the College of Education can engage in an agenda of in-depth
education policy study, research, and program evaluation for
the purpose of contributing to K-12 school improvement. It is
designated as a service and scholarly research center.

The
National Institute for Early Education Research at Rutgers
The National Institute for Early
Education Research (NIEER) supports early childhood education
policy making by providing objective, nonpartisan information
based on research. The Institute offers independent research-based
advice and technical assistance to four primary groups: policy
makers, journalists, researchers, and educators. NIEER seeks
to increase policy transparency by collecting and disseminating
information on state policy, including a Yearbook that annually
reports on state pre-K policies regarding access, quality standards,
and resources. The Institute also conducts new research and
evaluations, surveys, secondary analyses of existing data, and
critical summaries of the literature to provide policy makers
with timely information addressing practical problems. NIEER
is a unit of the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers, The
State University of New Jersey.

The
Campaign for Educational Equity at Columbia University, Teachers
College
The Campaign for Educational Equity is the focal
point for Teachers College's mission of promoting equity and
excellence in education and overcoming the gap in educational
access and achievement between advantaged groups and disadvantaged
groups in this country. The Campaign reflects the total institutional
commitment of the College to promoting educational equity.
The
Institute for Education and Social Policy of the Steinhardt
School at New York University
The Institute for Education and Social Policy
of the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human
Development and Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service
at NYU conducts scientific research about U.S. education and
related social issues. Our research, policy studies, evaluations,
seminar series, and technical assistance inform and support
policy makers, educators, parents and others in their efforts
to improve public schooling.
- OHIO
The
Ohio Collaborative
The Ohio Collaborative is a research and
policy analysis center committed to conducting and disseminating
research that can improve schools and the lives of children
and families. Funded initially by The Ohio Board of Regents,
the primary goals of The Ohio Collaborative are guided by
the policy and research questions that face major state
entities such as the Ohio Legislature and the Governor’s
Office, the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Department
of Job and Family Services, and the Ohio Board of Regents.
Additionally, the Collaborative provides
information and assistance to Ohio’s school districts,
especially those that serve lower socio-economic areas.
The work of the Ohio Collaborative is carried out in partnership
with faculty and graduate associates throughout the state
of Ohio college and university system and under the administration
of the Ohio State University.

The
Center for Educational Policy Research and The
Education Policy Improvement Center
The Center for Educational Policy Research (CEPR)
seeks to help policy makers and policy implementers alike do
a better job of using educational policy as a tool to improve
schooling and student learning. In conjunction with its affiliate,
the Education Policy Improvement Center (EPIC), CEPR works with
federal agencies, state education departments, non-governmental
organizations, private foundations, and school districts to
support research on a range of issues in the areas of high school-to-college
articulation, adequacy funding, large-scale assessment models,
and other policy initiatives designed to improve student success.
The
Consortium for Policy Research in Education (CPRE)
CPRE's work focuses on the relations between education
policy and organization on the one hand, and school, classroom
practice, and student learning on the other. The uncertainty of
these relationships is a problem for policymakers and practitioners
alike as ambitious state and federal policies do not always lead
to fruitful classroom practice. CPRE has conducted extensive research
on the following issues, examining ways to bridge this gap as
well as develop and sustain high-quality instruction:

Learning
Policy Center at the University of Pittsburgh
The mission of the Learning Policy Center (LPC)
is to foster high quality learning environments for both students
and professionals in public schools. Toward that end, the LPC
aims to infuse into policy decisions high quality, timely research
on effective teaching and learning and on the school, district,
and policy conditions that support their improvement. The LPC
utilizes the rich talent pool of the University of Pittsburgh’s
School of Education, the Learning Research and Development Center,
the Institute For Learning and other regional assets to connect
high quality learning research with education policy decision-makers.
South
Carolina Educational Policy Center at the University of South
Carolina
The South Carolina Educational Policy Center
(SCEPC) reflects educational policy research to South Carolinians,
interested educators, and educational policy makers throughout
the southeast and the nation. The SCEPC, now in its 12th year
of operation, researches policy issues related to prekindergarten
through high school and postsecondary education and disseminates
that information to educational decision makers at all levels.
The
Center for Research in Educational Policy at the University
of Memphis
The Center for Research in Educational Policy
is a State of Tennessee Center of Excellence located at The
University of Memphis. The Center's mission is to implement
a research agenda associated with educational policies and practices
in preK-12 public schools and to provide a knowledge base for
use by educational practitioners and policymakers. Research
outcomes are intended to not only describe the complexities
of educational phenomena but also offer recommendations for
action.
Center for Education at Rice University
Since its founding in 1988, the Center for
Education has created links between learning, research, curriculum,
and school organization and policy. It has become a significant
presence in school change in Texas and nationally by working
closely with school practitioners, community leaders, policymakers,
and children. The Center strives to improve K through 12 education
by:
- providing meaningful educational opportunities for all;
creating new ways for teachers to learn, and developing research-based
projects to enhance teaching and learning in pre-college environments;
- establishing and strengthening links between business, community
leaders, artists, writers, scientists, university scholars,
and school professionals;
- developing collaborations between Center projects to broaden
and deepen the efforts of each; building networks of teacher
leaders; providing a base for policy discussions, and serving
as a catalyst for broad, systemic, lasting improvements in
school reform;
- conducting research on teaching and learning, as well as
disseminating the information with the goal of serving as
a national model for educational reform.
Texas
Center for Education Policy at the University of Texas at Austin
A central purpose of the center is to bring
researchers together whose work has direct bearing on policy
issues of the day and to in turn bring them together with the
larger stakeholder education communities statewide. Internally,
we have begun to accomplish this through a series of highly
successful policy brown bags as noted herein. Several
of us have also been involved in the legislative session, advising
policymakers on dropout prevention, student assessment, and
teacher quality.
Utah
Education Policy Center at the University of Utah
The Utah Education Policy Center (UEPC) is a
research-based center dedicated to improving the quality of
educational policies, practices, and leadership in Utah public
schools and higher education by informing and influencing educational
policy in Utah and the region. In doing so, the UEPC aims to
increase educational equity, access, and opportunities for all
children and adults in Utah, particularly for those who have
been historically marginalized. Bridging, research, policies,
and practice, the UEPC engages in timely and rigorous research,
evaluations, and analysis; reviews existing national research
and policies to inform local decisions; identifies and brings
new issues to public attention; reframes issues through research;
provides information on how particular policy issues have been
addressed by other agencies or organizations; and assembles
different stakeholders to develop solutions to address current
policy issues.
Education
Policy Institute at Virginia Tech
The mission of EPI is to:
- Establish an organization devoted to educational
policy research and service in the Commonwealth of Virginia
and the nation;
- Conduct research intended to inform educational
policy makers;
- Focus research interests of the faculty and
graduate students on educational policy issues; and
- Act as a service unit for educational policy
groups such as the State Board of Education and the State
Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
The
Center for Multicultural Education at the University of Washington-Seattle
The Center for Multicultural Education
at the University of Washington-Seattle, focuses on research projects
and activities designed to improve practice related to equity
issues, intergroup relations, and the achievement of all students.
The Center also engages in services and teaching related to its
research mission.
Wisconsin
Center for Education Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
A part of the University of Wisconsin–Madison's
School of Education, WCER provides a productive environment
where some of the country's leading scholars conduct basic and
applied education research. The WCER roster includes research
centers and projects that are currently investigating a variety
of topics in education.
Institute
for Intercultural Research at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
The Institute for Intercultural Research
(IIR) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) addresses
the needs and responds to the concerns of communities of color
through research, public service and information resource sharing.
In partnership with faculty, staff and community members, the
Institute conducts scholarly research and sponsors public forums
to address a variety of intercultural issues. In addition, the
Institute serves as a clearinghouse of information, distributing
and publishing reports, studies and papers in a broad range of
intercultural areas.
