Oakes, Jeannie

Jeannie Oakes is Presidential Professor in educational equity at the University of California at Los Angeles. She is also the director of UCLA's Institute for Democracy, Education & Access (IDEA) and of UC's All Campus Consortium on Research for Diversity (ACCORD). Oakes' research examines inequalities in U.S. schools, and follows the progress of equity-minded reform. Oakes received three awards from the American Educational Research Association (Early Career Award; Outstanding Research Article; Outstanding Book), and she received the National Association for Multicultural Education's Multicultural Research Award and the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Educational Press Association of America. She is also the recipient of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Ralph David Abernathy Award for Public Service and of the World Cultural Council's Jose Vasconcelos World Award in Education. She is a member of the National Academy of Education.
